What Wendy Brings to The Table - Experience and Education

Wendy is a professional instructor since 1993, when her passion for health and fitness inspired her to share it with others. Being an ACE certifed personal trainer and aerobics instructor is where her journey began. Soon after, Wendy earned a Baccalaureate Honors Degree in Sports Medicine at the University of North Carolina in 1995.

Wendy furthered her studies and earned her Yoga Alliance RYT certification as well as sundry fitness and dance certifications which ultimately led her to teaching a variety of exercise movement classes for nationally recongized health clubs, local hospitals, and independent studios in the greater Washington Metropolitan Area.

Transitions Yoga and Dance - The Teacher's Teachers!

In response to her growing student base, she opened Transitions Yoga and Dance Studio in Sterling, Virgina, in 2002 while at the same time intimately exploring Kundalini Yoga, Ashtanga, American Tribal Style (ATS), and the Suhaila Salimpour dance methodology as part of her personal practices. Wendy studied with these masters in person which included traveling to India to study Ashtanga with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Separately, she had the honor to study Kundalini yoga with Yogi Bhajan, who named her Bhagwati Kaur, and was one of the first to earn a ATS general skills certification from with Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman. Her diverse interests, experiences, and education contributed to her eclectic instructional approach, which springboards from her Yoga Synthesis training with Raji Thron.

Continual Education - Professional and Formal Studies

Additionally, Wendy served in the United States Army, earned her graduate degree in International Relations and Conflict Resolution in 2011, is a linguist for the Federal Government, is recently adult education certified, and is currently working towards her second graduate degree. Driven to learn and share, in 2014 she created an annual teacher's training certification program.

Why Wendy, Why Masala?

Wendy is appreciated for her breadth and wealth of knowlege and her passion for sharing it; her ability to articulate nuances of the most complex movements; her creativity when modifying movement, making it accessible for anyone and often decreasing student's chronic pain; empowering students to steer their our journey; and last but not least...offering a fun and safe space for her students to explore themselves and their learning processes without judgement. Classes are small in size, a low student to teacher ratio, which increases one on one attention and maximizes learning. Masala Movements might be exactly what you have been looking for. Come practice with us!
