6-session series: Jul 15 & 22, Aug 12th & 26th, Sep 9th & 23rd
Take your cymbal improvisation to the next level! Learn exercises to build your hand strength and stamina. Explore rhythm concepts, such as beat structure, timing, and syncopation, as we play with Salimpour™ inspired combinations and drills.
*Please bring your cymbals to class. Cymbals with two slots for elastic (rather than one) are highly suggested for greater stability and control.
About Your Instructor:
Known for her fiery stage presence and sophisticated cymbal work, Donna Eileen is a dynamic performer and instructor with a focus on Middle Eastern folk dance and belly dance, West African dance, and Hip Hop. She strives to create an innovative expression of music through movement that is rooted in joy and soulful empowerment. It is her love of music that drives her to seek knowledge and inspiration from all forms of dance. Drawing from both Western and Eastern dance forms, she is in constant pursuit of new ways to voice her musicality with both honesty and respect.
Donna Eileen has performed internationally as a cast member of Suhaila Salimpour’s Bal Anat and is the Collective Leader for Salimpour Collective DC. As a Suhaila Level 2 Certified and Jamila Level 2 Certified dancer, she is actively working toward Level 3 Certification in both formats of the Salimpour™ School. She has also studied Middle Eastern dance and music (Alexia/Kim Leary) and West African dance (Audrey Davis) at The Drum & Dance Learning Center (DDLC) in Princeton, NJ. Under the mentorship of Kim Leary, she served as an instructor and Assistant Dance Director of Groove Merchant Drum & Dance Ensemble, DDLC's resident performance ensemble. Additionally, she has studied the Gypsy Caravan Tribal Bellydance Format through the Collective Soul Certification Program and currently holds Level 1 – Apprentice certification in Belladonna’s Bohemian Blade Balancing Training.
